October Holiday - Arriving in Beijing

October holidays were finally upon us. Colette was going to meet her friend Julie in Beijing and head to Xian for a few days. Sounded like a good plan. Troy who I worked with at Stockland wanted to come for a visit too so I had put it to him that we all go together.

Julie wasn't going to be in Beijing until the night of October 2nd so we had a couple of days to play with before she got there.

We were booked to stay at the Beijing Harmony Hotel. It was a cheap 3 Star rated hotel that seemed to be in a good location. It wasn't too bad except that the street out the front was apparently the meeting place for hundreds of people going home for the holidays.

Both Troy and Julie had been prepped to bring us booze and books. I had also asked Edwina to put some chocolate and other things in the bag. When Troy gave me my bag of loot I didn't know which book to start with. There is a distinct lack of English reading material here!

We bought a map for 8 yuan and found our way to Tiananmen Square to take a look.

We were planning on trying to find the night food markets for dinner but we had a bit of trouble with the map.

We eventually found a food court type place on Waifujung Street and had Japanese for dinner. Poor Troy... his first night in China and we didn't eat Chinese! Colette and I eat it every day so we were in the mood for a change. Troy said he didn't mind.
